RUMOR: ‘Black Widow’ May Start Filming Next Month

In spite of Marvel’s unwillingness to reveal anything in their Phase 4 slate past Spider-Man: Far From Home until the San Diego Comic Con in July, some information is slipping through the cracks. According to reports, Marvel’s Black Widow solo film may start filming as soon as the end of next month.

GWW are confident that Natasha Romanoff’s much-anticipated solo film will begin shooting on February 28, with a production schedule slated to take them all the way through the end of March.

Kevin Feige has been aching to make a Black Widow film ever since taking the reigns away from Ike Perlmutter back in 2015. After Perlmutter, who didn’t seem to believe that female superhero movies could sell, it seems that the only thing delaying this film’s production was the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) full schedule of films for Phase 3, that could only be amended to introduce Captain Marvel to the MCU ahead of the fourth Avengers film.

Therefore, it seemed sensible to predict that Black Widow would come out in 2020 as that was when the earliest slots opened up. However, GWW claim that James Gunn’s firing and the subsequent delay of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has made Black Widow Marvel’s priority as they figure out their 2020 movie slate.

GWW also report that the film will be shot in Croatia and Miami, Florida. They don’t mention Budapest (where Black Widow and Hawkeye apparently had a memorable mission together, according to dialogue in The Avengers), but it’s unlikely these are the only locations they’ll use to shoot the movie. At the very least, we can hope that they’ll build a set and some green screen for Budapest flashbacks.

Black Widow will be directed by Cate Shortland, with Scarlett Johansson returning to her role as the titular character. For more updates on Black Widow, stay tuned to Movie News Net.
