‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ Trailer Reveals King Ghidorah

Godzilla
Godzilla: King of the Monsters has revealed its second trailer, and with it comes a clearer look at King Ghidorah, the film’s central antagonist, as well as many of the other Titans.

In the latest trailer for the movie, we finally get to see the world at large approach the gargantuan mammoth in the room poised by the events of 2014’s Godzilla movie: giant monsters exist, and we’re incredibly lucky that at least one of them are on our side. Unfortunately, not all of them are, so we see the mysterious monster-tracking organization known as Monarch make moves toward ensuring that Godzilla is protected… And that humanity can serve as his sidekick as new monsters enter the fold.

Considering that Millie Bobbie Brown became a big star with Stranger Things on Netflix, it almost seems weird to see that the trailer is focused less on her and more on the giant monsters, even though the monsters themselves are the real star of the show. Joining the Big G himself are King Ghidorah, the character’s traditional archnemesis, Mothra, a character that is consistently Earth’s protector no matter which side Godzilla is on in the various movies, and Rodan, a frequent ally of Godzilla who looks to be taking a more antagonistic role here, along with what looks to be some kind of scorpion-type monster in the desert.

While the original Godzilla was criticized for hiding its titular monster until about the halfway mark and then only intermittently showing him up until the absolutely stunning finale, King of the Monsters looks to remedy that and more by featuring all kinds of titanic action throughout. The battles being promised look like they’ll be able to top the action of the first film, particularly with a story so focused on the monsters themselves. Long live the king.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be released on May 31, 2019.
