RUMOR: Travis Knight May Direct ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

Guardians of the Galaxy
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may have found its replacement director in Travis Knight, the director of 2016’s Kubo and the Two Strings and this December’s Transformers spin-off/soft-reboot Bumblebee.

The DisInsider has dropped an exclusive rumor about the next installment of Marvel’s unexpectedly-popular sci-fi franchise which states that Knight is on the shortlist to direct the trilogy-capper to the Guardians of the Galaxy series. While this is not a done deal as of yet, Knight was on Marvel’s shortlist for The Eternals before Chloe Zhao got the job. This is an interesting possibility to consider, given that many of the rumored directors on the shortlist for Guardians 3 are women.

Reports suggest that early reactions to Knight’s Bumblebee from have all been very positive, and if this is the case, then it only makes sense as to why Marvel would want him to work on the project. The movie will be a send-off to the original team of characters (which is not to say that it’s the last we’ll see of the characters), so expectations are high for Marvel to stick the landing on this sequel, especially without James Gunn being involved beyond giving them the script that they’re sticking to.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was unofficially scheduled for a release window in the first half of 2020, but plans have changed after James Gunn was dismissed from the project. Production may still take place at some point in 2019, albeit later than the February 2019 start date that was originally intended.
