‘Game of Thrones’: Final Season to Air in April 2019

Game Of Thrones
HBO have officially revealed that hit series Game of Thrones will air its final episodes starting in April 2019. This puts rumors of the series potentially airing later on in the year to rest as the fantasy series nears its conclusion.

HBO confirmed that the show would begin airing in April once again, as that period has called the debuts of a majority of the other seasons Game of Thrones home. The announcement came through a short ad promoting the next season, and while it does feature no new footage, it does highlight the journeys that all of the lead characters have gone through over the course of the 67 episodes that have already aired:

Like the seventh season of the show, the remaining episodes will be fewer in number in favor of ensuring that the quality of the show’s visual effects are top-notch, and the remaining episodes are truly epic in scale. While it hasn’t been confirmed that each of the remaining episodes will be longer than the show’s usual hour-long format, it’s looking incredibly likely that that’s going to happen with so many story arcs left to resolve. Some episodes may even be feature-length, or close to it.

Following the completion of Game of Thrones, showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss are slated to work on a new series of Star Wars films for Lucasfilm, covering an era that has not yet been explored in the current continuity. However, HBO will continue developing the world presented in Game of Thrones with multiple spin-off series that explore the setting in the years before the War of Five Kings. The first of these shows, The Long Night, is ramping up pre-production and has cast Naomi Watts and Josh WhitehouseThe Long Night will be written by Jane Goldman.

Game of Thrones Season 8 will air in April 2019.
