‘Game of Thrones’ Reveals First Photo of Season 8

Game of Thrones
Entertainment Weekly (EW) have revealed the first photo from Season 8 of Game of Thrones, starring Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow.

When we last left them, the two characters were getting to know each other a bit more… intimately, and the latest photo suggests the two will remain staunch allies against Cersei and the Night King in the final season.

In their interview with Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington, who play Daenerys and Jon respectively, and co-executive producer Bryan Cogman, Entertainment Weekly reveal some interesting tidbits about how the show went about filming the final season. Naturally, none of the quotes are spoilers for the story (there’s no way HBO would have sanctioned this interview if they were), but Cogman did tease us about what we can expect:

It’s about all of these disparate characters coming together to face a common enemy, dealing with their own past, and defining the person they want to be in the face of certain death. It’s an incredibly emotional haunting bittersweet final season and I think it honors very much what [author George R.R. Martin] set out to do — which is flipping this kind of story on its head.

Indeed, George R.R. Martin has said in the past that his A Song of Ice and Fire series – on which the TV show is based – will likely have a bittersweet ending, and Cogman has pretty much confirmed that the show will follow suit.

EW also reveal that the final six episodes took 10 months to film, as the cast and crew worked hard to make sure the final season is as perfect as it can be. ‘It’s relentless; scenes that would have been a one-day shoot five years ago are now a five-day shoot,’ Harrington revealed. ‘They want to get it right, they want to shoot everything every single way so they have options.’

Emilia Clarke agrees. ‘[Camera] checks take longer, costumes are a bit better, hair and makeup a bit sharper – every choice, every conversation, every attitude, has this air of ‘this is it’. Everything feels more intense.’

The final season of Game of Thrones will air in the first half of 2019. Stay tuned to MNN for further updates on the final six episodes.
