Disney’s ‘Jungle Cruise’ Sails to 2020 Release Date

Jungle Cruise
Disney’s Jungle Cruise drifted down the river a bit this morning with the announcement that the film was moving from October 11th 2019 to July 24th 2020. Whilst a delay would normally mean stormy waters, this move looks like a show of confidence by Disney, moving the film into the summer blockbuster season.

The new release date is a positive signal that Disney expects their latest theme park adaptation to perform more like Pirates of the Caribbean than The Haunted Mansion. After almost a decade in development, it’s nice to see signs that Disney are confident in the final product and that the wait might just be worth it.

The move was revealed by Dwayne Johnson on Twitter as he invited audiences to join him and co-star Emily Blunt for “THE ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME”;

The move to summer 2020 could potential give Johnson an impressive four films that year, including G.I. JoeFast & Furious 9, and Red Notice. However, Deadline notes that, for now, these are just dates the studios are reserving and cameras haven’t started rolling on any of Johnson’s other projects.

Jungle Cruise is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, and stars Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Jack Whitehall, Edgar Ramirez, and Jesse Plemons.
