‘Aquaman’: Extended Look Unveiled in Time for the New York Comic Con

Aquaman
A few months ago, James Wan unveiled an extended five-minute preview of Aquaman at the San Diego Comic Con, though this wasn’t released to the public. Now, it looks like the footage revealed there has been publicly unveiled in time for the New York Comic Con.

The new extended look was revealed around noon today. While it certainly shows off a lot of the movie, it’s to my understanding that there’s a lot of content that has yet to be so much as teased, including some of the best parts of the entire film. You can check it out below:

There’s quite a bit to unpack here. We’ve got an idea of the basic structure of the story now: after the events of Justice League, Aquaman reunites with Mera as the two of them travel the seven seas in search of an artifact (the Trident of Neptune) to obtain it before his half-brother Orm can use it to wage war on the surface world. There was also a really cool extended sequence involving Aquaman and Mera evading Black Manta and a group of Atlanteans charging through a shore town, complete with an extended tracking shot that transitions from Mera on the run to Aquaman fighting Black Manta. Plus, at the very end, the scene of what looks like the final battle underwater looks like the absolute sweetest kind of eye candy, and ought to remedy the CGI problems that DC Films projects have had at every movie they’ve done after Man of Steel.

I imagine that we’ll likely get a recut version of this extended look, probably with some different footage tossed in to spice things up, in front of next month’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Overall, Aquaman looks incredibly promising and I can’t wait to check it out, since the project has consistently been building buzz since positive responses to early test screenings made their way online at the beginning of the year.

Aquaman hits theaters on December 21, 2018.
