RUMOR: ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Suits Revealed

Spider-Man
Details on two new suits that Spider-Man will wear in next July’s Spider-Man: Far From Home have surfaced, including a leak of one of them that presents interesting implications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers 4.

MCU Cosmic describes the first suit our hero wore as having a visually-similar design to the one he wore in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but with a key difference: the blue parts of his costume are now black. This is something of a call-back to the character’s original planned design by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, and given the latter is no longer with us, it may serve as an unintentional-yet-poignant tribute to his legacy. Concept art from Homecoming that revealed what such a design might look like can be seen below:

But that won’t be the only darker outfit that Peter Parker will don to fight the likes of Mysterio. Set photos show that Spider-Man will wear an all-dark uniform that appears to have more in common with tactical gear than spandex. (On a side note, MCU Cosmic says that this Stealth Suit is not the same as the red-and-black outfit described above.) This clearly isn’t meant to be the Symbiote costume, but it greatly resembles the character’s Spider-Man Noir design:

An interesting detail that can be seen on the torso is what appears to be a S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem that you can just barely make out. It’s no secret that the other heroes that will be helping Spidey out on his second solo adventure are Nick Fury and Maria Hill, but their organization S.H.I.E.L.D. has been largely inert in the main story of the MCU (barring a last-minute rescue operation seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron) since the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In that movie, it was revealed that HYDRA had infiltrated and was able to grow within the espionage agency, and as such, it had to be destroyed before it could be rebuilt. It seems that about half a decade after HYDRA was exposed, S.H.I.E.L.D. is able to return to prominence within the setting and will likely play a larger part in the MCU’s story going forward, given that certain characters will be retired (at least for now) by the end of Avengers 4.

Spider-Man being a S.H.I.E.L.D. ally is an interesting turn of events, and one that suggests that he’ll be in-touch with other heroes in his future films as opposed to being the only hero in his own movie series. Hopefully, Sony and Marvel are able to collaborate and put Spider-Man into movies starring less popular characters in order to help boost their profiles.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released on July 5, 2019.
