Cary Joji Fukunaga to Direct ‘Bond 25’

Bond 25
The search is over. EON Productions and MGM announced today that Cary Joji Fukunaga will direct the currently untitled Bond 25 for release February 14th 2020.

Fukunaga will replace Danny Boyle at the head of Daniel Craig’s final outing as Britain’s best loved spy. Boyle left the project last month following creative differences with Daniel Craig and franchise producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson over the direction of the script.

Deadline confirmed that Broccoli and Wilson met with numerous producers in their hunt for a replacement before hiring Fukunaga to guide Craig’s final mission as 007. In a statement the producers said; “We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond Adventure.”

Fukunaga is perhaps best known for his work on the first season of HBO’s True Detective, where he served as both a director and executive producer on the series. He recently received critical acclaim for directing Beasts of No Nation for Netflix.

Fukunaga will direct a script that is currently being written by long running Bond scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.

The announcement of the new director also confirmed what many suspected. Bond 25 is getting a new release date. The film was scheduled for release next November, but will now hit cinemas worldwide on February 14th 2020.
