First ‘Captain Marvel’ Trailer Takes Flight

Captain Marvel
After a small-but-crucial tease after the credits of Avengers: Infinity War, where a desperate Nick Fury pages for an old ally for help in the face of Armageddon, the stage has been set for Carol Danvers to make her big debut in her own standalone Captain Marvel movie before she returns for the still-untitled Avengers 4. Fans have waited with baited breath for the first trailer after Entertainment Weekly revealed the first look at Danvers, the Starforce, and the Skrulls, and now it’s finally here.

There’s also a new poster for the movie, which you can see below:

Captain Marvel is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, based on a screenplay they co-wrote with Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Liz Flahive, and Carly Mensch. The movie stars Brie Larson, Jude Law, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, Mckenna Grace, and Clark Gregg. The film’s synopsis is as follows:

“Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.”

The film will take inspiration from the Kree-Skrull War story arc from the comics, albeit without the Avengers present in the story. Instead, the movie will focus on Captain Marvel and her allies assisting S.H.I.E.L.D. with thwarting a Skrull invasion, allowing her to meet up with Nick Fury and Phil Coulson early on in their careers as agents of the organization. The film, being set before every Marvel Studios film other than Captain America: The First Avenger (which was set in the 1940s), also features a number of things tying the Captain Marvel mythology to prior movies like 2008’s Iron Man, 2012’s The Avengers, and 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, to name a few.

Captain Marvel will be released on March 8, 2019.
