‘Suicide Squad 2’ Script Completed, Features More Character-Focused Narrative

Suicide Squad
After three different drafts, Suicide Squad 2 has a completed script. According to writer Todd Stashwick, the movie will be much more focused on developing the cast of characters that aren’t Will Smith’s Deadshot or Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn (both of whom are expected to return for the project).

DiscussingFilm managed to snag an interview with Stashwick on a multitude of projects he’s involved with, including Kim Possible (where he will play a live-action version of Dr. Drakken, one of her most persistent enmies) and 12 Monkeys (which recently concluded on SyFy). But the conversation eventually shifted over to Suicide Squad 2, which Stashwick has been working on with writer David Bar Katz and director Gavin O’Connor. When asked about the progress on the script, Stashwick noted that it was complete but kept light on the story details:

“We have finished our draft and I’m really proud of it… I can’t say anything else. Our intention is to tell an exciting story, deepening these characters.”

While Stashwick isn’t able to divulge into the details on the movie’s story, the people at SuperBroMovies seem to have heard a few details. The movie being developed originally was set primarily in the Middle East and introduced audiences to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Black Adam ahead of the character’s solo film, but Johnson’s scheduling conflicts made this impossible to pull off, and the Black Adam movie may actually happen first. However, it appears that the movie will retain that setting, and another high-profile DC villain will be brought into the plot in his place.

From the sound of things, the story will be much more grounded than the first and will emulate the likes of Black Hawk Down in a way that puts the Suicide Squad in the role of a black ops unit. The movie is said to be tonally-different from the schizoid, pop/punk-influenced presentation that the first movie went with, and it’s more likely that the film will be R-rated. Since more time is being invested into the sequel’s development, it’s likely that the film will be much better than the first outing.

Suicide Squad 2 is in development at DC Films. The movie does not yet have a release date.
