“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” Season 13 Teased

The gang might be a member short (for now at least), but they’ll still be bringing crazy drunken comedy to the City of Brotherly Love in the thirteenth season of FXX‘s long running sitcom.

As It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia enters its thirteenth season, it cements itself as one of the longest running live action American sitcoms of all time (at least by season- it wouldn’t fare as well if you go by episode count, given the series’ generally shorter seasons).

Last year’s twelfth season saw the show head into some more surprising, almost evolutionary territory. For a series that may have seemed almost built the philosophy of preventing character growth, 2017 saw Charlie finally sleeping with the waitress, Mac at last embracing his homosexuality, and Dennis’s apparent departure from the show. There was even an episode titled “The Gang Tends Bar”, a self referential joke about how the central premise of a group of friends running a bar together had been largely ignored in recent years.

This more swift development of character was met with some controversy, but judging by a new teaser, the gang is back to doing what they do best.

Looks like we can expect Dee drinking in inappropriate situations, Frank doing weird stuff to his face, a sequel to the Wade Boggs Challenge, Mac back in the infamous duster, and a mannequin of Dennis that somehow manages to be even creepier than the real thing.

We also get a glimpse of a very Kramer-inspired Charlie, possibly alluding to a spoof of the other long-running sitcom. In recent years, Always Sunny has definitely started dipping their toes more heavily into concept episodes, with stuff like last year’s controversial musical episode “The Gang Turns Black”, and the Birdman-esque “Charlie Work”.

After about a year and a half of waiting, fans will finally get to tune back into the gang’s antics with the release of “The Gang Makes Paddy’s Great Again” on September 5th.
