‘James Bond 25’ May be Rewritten and Delayed

James Bond
The 25th outing for the James Bond movie franchise may see a delay as a result of director Danny Boyle’s departure, and one that could give time for the replacement director and/or writer to draft a new script.

Variety is reporting that the next James Bond movie is undergoing a shake-up as a result of Boyle’s exit. Reportedly, the creative differences between the director came down to the script that he and his co-writer John Hodge came up with, as longtime James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson disagreed with the direction Boyle and Hodge were taking the story. With 007 actor Daniel Craig also taking disagreeing with the script’s direction, the creative team was at an impasse and decided to leave the project. Now, MGM and Eon Productions are looking for writers, directors, or writer-directors to take over the project.

Because of this change in creative direction, it appears unlikely that Boyle and Hodge’s script is going to be utilized, nor will the script created by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (who were part of the teams that wrote the first four Craig-starring James Bond adventures) serve as the primary source for whatever story will send off Craig’s version of the expert spy. Shooting was expected to begin at December 8, 2018, but a pushback is now expected. To fit existing filming plans, the movie will have to start filming in January if the original release date of November 2019 is to be kept. Though a delay is likely at this point, it’s entirely possible that Eon and MGM can make it work, and after receiving a hefty paycheck and a significant amount of creative influence over his 007 swan song, it can safely be said that Craig isn’t going anywhere.

Bond 25 is currently scheduled to be released on November 8, 2019, but following Boyle’s departure, it’s likely that the film’s release date will be delayed. As mentioned above, it will be the last James Bond movie that will star Craig as the franchise’s titular character.
