Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott Return to ‘American Horror Story’

American Horror Story
Ain’t no party like an apocalyptic house party! It’s just been confirmed that American Horror Story: Apocalypse will see the return of two actors crucial to the story of the original season, American Horror Story: Murder House.

While Apocalypse has been labeled as a season that will emphasize a world-ending event and everything that follows, the big draw for longtime fans of FX’s horror anthology series is that the story will cross the casts of the first season (Murder House) over with the casts of the third season (American Horror Story: Coven). The plots for these respective seasons involved a haunted house that the cast can’t leave for financial reasons and a group of witches who unite as a new prodigy (“The Supreme”) arises. The birth of the Antichrist factored into Murder House as the season reached its conclusion, and while the powers that the witches use in Coven aren’t necessarily Satanic in nature, Hell does factor into that story. So put them together, and what do you get? We’re still not sure just yet, but we do know that major players from both seasons will return.

Variety is reporting that two stars of Murder House will make a return: Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott. While this is the first time that Britton has returned to the series, McDermott played a role in American Horror Story: Asylum as a major character in the present day portion of the story. They have not been confirmed to play their Murder House characters (Vivien and Ben Harmon, respectively) as of yet, but it seems incredibly likely that they will appear since they owned the house in question. So far, the only Murder House characters explicitly confirmed to appear are Constance and Michael Langdon, portrayed by Jessica Lange and Cody Fern. It’s not known if Taissa Farmiga, who is a part of the show’s cast, will portray her Murder House role (Violet Harmon).

Showrunner Ryan Murphy has also revealed that most of the main cast from Coven will be appearing, including Farminga as Zoe Benson, Emma Roberts as Madison Montgomery, Gabourey Sidibe as Queenie, Lily Rabe as Misty Day, Frances Conroy as Myrtle Snow, Sarah Paulson as Cordelia Goode, and Stevie Nicks as a fictionalized version of herself (as she’s a witch in the show’s continuity). He revealed this cast of characters in a tweet a few days ago:

Worth noting is that Paulson will also be portraying Billie Dean Howard, her Murder House character, and a new character called Venable. She will be joined by Kathy Bates as Ms. Meade, Billie Lourd as Mallory, Adina Porter as Dinah Stevens, and Leslie Grossman as Coco St. Pierre Vanderbilt. Cast members with indeterminate roles include Evan Peters, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman,
Kyle Allen, Joan Collins, Lesley Fera, Billy Eichner, and Cheyenne Jackson.

American Horror Story: Apocalypse premieres on FX on September 12.
