‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ Will Feature Adapted Musical Themes From Original Films
A new tweet from Michael Dougherty not only confirms that Bear McCreary will be composing for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but he will also be utilizing several of the classic musical motifs from the original movies, based on the compositions that Akira Ifukube made for multiple themes in the film series.
The tweet, shown below, contains sheet music confirming that the original music featured in the film series will be implemented in the sequel:

The lack of the iconic “Godzilla March” theme was something that many fans lamented was absent from the 2014 film, and with Ifukube receiving credit in McCreary’s score, that’s a change for the better that the sequel will correct. Ifukube composed several themes in multiple Toho monster films that were part of the Big G’s shared universe, including the original 1954 film Gojira, Rodan, Mothra vs. Godzilla, Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, King Kong Escapes, Destroy All Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, just to name a few. If you haven’t heard the theme before, you can hear it below:
Hopefully, the composer’s themes for the other monsters will appear in the score as well. As mentioned above, there’s a lot of material that McCreary can draw from in his own score.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be released on May 31, 2019.
