‘Deadwood’ Reunion Hinted At

After being cancelled for over a decade, HBO President Casey Bloys confirmed that a Deadwood movie should be entering production soon.

In May of 2006, the popular and vulgar HBO western Deadwood was cancelled due to production issues after only three seasons, much to the disappointment of many fans. Ever since, there have been various rumors of a a film or revival, but little to show that any project was able to get much off the ground.

This inability to get the ball rolling was why many fans, though excited, took with a grain of salt series actress Robin Weigert’s suggestion in an interview with the L.A. Times last week that production had begun.

“There’s a 90% chance it’ll finally happen,” Weigert said, referring to the reunion film.

Weigert also said that many actors have already signed on to the project. As of now, leads Timothy Olyphant, Ian MsShane, and Molly Parker are not officially associated with the movie.

That news seems to have been at least partially confirmed by HBO president Casey Bloys this week at the Television Critics Association’s press tour, in which he said that the Deadwood film would hopefully start production in October, and be ready for a Spring release.

Bloys did want to make it extremely clear to fans that even with this hopeful news, they can’t necessarily say for certain that the project is completely set for a release. “Let’s take the green light and celebrate that,” he said.
