‘Godzilla 2’ Features a Mystery ‘Kong: Skull Island’ Character

Godzilla Kong
Godzilla: King of the Monsters is part of the same shared universe as Kong: Skull Island, but the big ape isn’t expected to appear in the movie at all. However, director Michael Dougherty has revealed that a character from the Skull Island movie will be appearing… Though he didn’t reveal which character it would be, nor, more interestingly, who they would be portrayed by.

When Rotten Tomatoes interviewed the cast and crew at the San Diego Comic Con, the subject of the only movie in the setting to not feature Godzilla was touched upon. The director left an interesting tidbit after the team made a couple of jokes:

“We do bring back one character from Kong: Skull Island.”

Instead of revealing who the returning character is, he noted that fans will have to wait and see the movie in order to find out. The full cast and crew interview can be viewed below:

As it currently stands, most fan speculation right now suggests that Charles Dance will be this character, being an older version of James Conrad, the protagonist of Kong: Skull Island portrayed by Tom Hiddleston. That film was set in the 1973, and 46 years have passed between the Skull Island incident and the resurgence of the Titans, which would more than justify a switch in actors. However, it may also be possible that an older version of another character from the film could appear (the three other candidates being Brie Larson’s Mason Weaver, Jing Tian’s San Lin, and Corey Hawkins’ Houston Brooks), although this probably wouldn’t have the same impact on fans who have kept up with every movie in this series. Indeed, Dance being an older Conrad would create more opportunities for Godzilla vs. Kong, which he could very well appear in and most likely will.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be released on May 31, 2019.
