Epic ‘Aquaman’ Trailer Debuts at SDCC

Aquaman Trailer
This is the moment DC fans have waited all weekend for, the Aquaman trailer is here!

With a screen of water behind him, Jason Momoa entered Hall H like a rock star.

With the cast assembled on stage, director James Wan explained his approach to the movie;

“One of the big things I wanted to do was create a superhero world we’d never seen before. This might in some ways play more like a sci-fi/fantasy film than a traditional superhero movie which I think you’ll see in the trailer.”

WOW! That looks epic!!!

Warner Bros has always been able to cut a fantastic Comic Con trailer, but if Aquaman delivers on the promise of this first trailer, and all signs currently point to it doing just that, this will be the turning point that DC Films needs.  As Mera says; “you are worthy.”

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the panel though, was that Black Manta can’t swim. Or at least he couldn’t before filming. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II told the Hall H crowd;

“I secretly went down to the hotel pool when we were filming with a kick board and taught myself how to swim in the mornings and evenings. But then in the end I ended up not really having to do that much swimming.”

Now that’s dedication to your craft.

There was also a special, extended version of the trailer exclusively for those in Hall H. The six minute preview showed armored sharks and sea dragons, Aquaman and Mera in a desert city, and then in a chase with Black Manta and his men. It ended with Aquaman asking Mera “What could be greater than a king?”, “A hero” she replies, followed by the reveal of Aquaman in his classic costume.

Aquaman dives into theatres December 21st 2018.

Panel details are thanks to CBR, JoBlo and Batman-News’ live coverage of SDCC.
