‘Overlord’ Trailer Teases Campy Horror from Bad Robot Productions

When it comes to unsympathetic enemies that the average hero can mow down without compromising their own humanity, Nazis and zombies are both very popular choices. It’s no surprise then how popular it is to combine them, as Julius Avery has in the upcoming film Overlord.

In what could almost be mistaken as a cinematic adaptation of the Call of Duty video game series’ popular “Nazi Zombies” game mode, Overlord is set to pit brave World War II Allied paratroopers against evil fascist scientists and their undead creations. It’s not exactly untrod ground, but the film is produced by J. J. Abrams and Bad Robot Productions, which is an unusually large undertaking for a genre that is generally reserved for low-budget, pulpy horror and sci-fi films.

There were rumors that Overlord was slated to be part of the Cloverfield universe, though Abrams denied those connections earlier this year. Given the lack of the “Cloverfield” in Overlord’s title, this lack of connection seems to now be confirmed.

Overlord is set to hit theaters November 9th, 2018, after having been pushed back from its original October release date.
