UPDATED – Entertainment Weekly Reveals New Images From ‘Aquaman’

Aquaman
Entertainment Weekly have added even more new images to their Aquaman gallery, including the first picture of Djimon Hounsou’s Fisherman King!

Remember the first “Unite the Seven” image of Aquaman? There’s a pretty good chance it never referred to the League, but to the seven underwater kingdoms. Atlantis is one, currently ruled by Aquaman’s half-brother, King Orm. The Fisherman kingdom is another. Here, the Fisherman King is pictured, along with the Queen and Princess, in his royal palace.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the image comes from a scene where King Orm visits the Fisherman King to seek his support in declaring war on the surface world.

The underwater world created by James Wan looks absolutely stunning in this image. And so it should! According to Producer Peter Safran:

“After the fall of Atlantis, some of the kingdoms evolved and some devolved. This is one that evolved. This is a kingdom that’s primarily artistic and cerebral, with poets and philosophers.”

It’s certainly a striking contrast with this image of the armies of Atlantis squaring off with the rebels of Xebel:

It’s been said that Aquaman could offer a visual spectacle unrivalled by many other super hero movies, and going off these images that could certainly be the case!

The more I see from Aquaman, the more I’m looking forward to that trailer next weekend. SDCC can’t get here fast enough!

Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, and Patrick Wilson, swims into cinemas December 21st 2018.

UPDATED

There’s still time for one more first look before SDCC starts tonight! Today EW have revealed a first detailed look at the sea dragon! James Wan’s updated answer to Super Friends‘ sea horse.

According to Producer Peter Safran;

“The idea was to turn on its head the idea of Aquaman riding a seahorse, take something for which he was mocked and turn it into something terrifying and impressive.”

In that case they certainly succeeded!

The sea dragons are  a ridden by the warriors of Xebel, one of the seven underwater kingdoms led by King Nereus (Dolph Lundgren), but that doesn’t mean we won’t see Aquaman riding one. In fact, Safran hinted as much, saying he “wouldn’t be surprised” to see that before the credits roll.

Stay tuned for more Aquaman news as it hits this weekend.
