Entertainment Weekly Reveals Two New Villains from Transformers: Bumblebee

The first Transformers stand-alone movie, directed by Kubo and the Two Strings helmer Travis Knight now has its villains and their names are Shatter and Dropkick. The name of the third and main Decepticon is still kept under wraps and fans can only hope to learn more about him during the movie’s panel at SDCC next weekend.

The movie is set in the year of 1987 and tells the story of Bee’s early adventures, who now takes the form of a Volkswagen Beetle, as it was in the original animation series. As the trailer showed us the Autobot finds shelter in a garage owned by the main heroine Charlie, played by Hailee Steinfeid, trying to avoid Decepticon trackers.

EW has exclusively revealed the identity of these two Decepticon trackers and what their vehicle form will be,

One of the Decepticons is Shatter, who takes the form of a cherry-red Plymouth Satellite. She will be voiced by Angela Bassett.

Dropkick, whose vehicle form is a blue AMC Javelin, will be voiced by Justin Theroux.

Director Travis Knight commented on the surprising fact that now the Decepticons are taking the form of cars and not military vehicles, usually associated with the Decepticons, and why there will be so few of them:

The two main villains are Decepticon muscle cars.

When the cast is too big, and you have a finite amount of time, there’s only so much you can do to create an investment in them. This is a more personal, intimate, and character-driven story, so it felt right to keep the villain plot relatively simple and contained. If you keep things lean, you can add a lot of other stuff on top of it that makes it more enjoyable.

It is still unclear who was the flying decepticon from the trailer. His identy is still kept under wraps. Many fans believe this was Starscream but there is still no official confirmation on this.

We can expect to find more about the movie during the SDCC panel next Friday, so stay tuned.

Transformers: Bumblebee hits theaters on December 21, 2018.
