Jeremy Irons Joins the Cast of HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ Pilot

Oscar award winner Jeremy Irons is reported to be bringing his sense of class to HBO’s upcoming Watchmen universe pilot.

Jeremy Irons will be joining the cast of Damen Lindelof’s upcoming Watchmen pilot in a leading role, according to a report by Deadline. According to the author of the report, he will play “an aging and imperious lord of a British manor”. That may not sound like any of the main characters of Alan Moore’s 1986 limited comics run, but keep in mind that Lindelof’s HBO series is attempting to capture the spirit of the original while still telling an entirely new story.

Irons will be joining other cast members Tim Blake Nelson, Adelaide Clemens, Louis Gosset Jr., Regina Kind, and Andrew Howard, who are also expected to be playing original characters.

Irons has recently been in films such as Red Sparrow, Assassin’s Creed, and has played Alfred Pennyworth in the DC Extended Universe. Though an extremely accomplished actor, the only other major television role that he has had was in The Borgias, in which he played a leading role as the scheming Pope Alexander VI.

No release date is currently known for Lindelof’s series, though he did offer up some vague details in an open letter to the fan community via Instagram. Watchmen is being produced for HBO by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros Television.
