Henry Cavill Hints He’ll Play Superman Again Very Soon

In a workout video that Henry Cavill posted on Instagram, the Superman actor hints that he’s getting back in shape to play the Man of Steel again in the near future.

Cavill’s workout video noted that he was working on losing stomach fat so he could get back into shape soon, and he even jokingly alluded to the possibility that he’ll play the character soon if he wins a Teen Choice Award for Choice Action Movie Actor for his role as Superman in Justice League. However, he also added a quip in there saying that whether or not he does is independent of if he wins the award or not. The video can be seen below:

As it stands, Cavill has been rumored to have a cameo role of an unknown size in Shazam! for a while; given that he’s working out to lose a bit of weight, he presumably hasn’t filmed it just yet. (The Flash could be a good contender for a cameo as well, even if they’re not taking the Flashpoint route.) The other possibility is that there’s truth to the rumors that DC Films want to make a Superman movie in time for 2020 with a winning creative team, and Cavill is just getting back in shape well ahead of filming (which would almost certainly begin next year if they’re aiming for a 2020 release window). If DC Films are shaping up to have the character serve as the heart of the setting (as they absolutely should, along with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Ben Affleck’s Batman, or whomever replaces him as Batman if he’s indeed leaving), then it’s imperative for Cavill to make sure that he has a heroic build worthy of the Man of Steel year-round.
