New ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ Trailer

Sony releases a brand new trailer for their upcoming Spidey flick.

Despite losing creative involvement on Solo: A Star Wars Story, Phil Lord and Chris Miller have kept their schedules busy. They may not have a live-action film coming out any time soon, but they definitely have a large presence in the animated world. Yesterday we got our first look at The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, and now we get a brand new trailer for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

In a world where we’ve had three different incarnations of Peter Parker on the big screen, it’s refreshing to finally see a film led by a new character like Miles Morales. The trailer seems to suggest that Miles is struggling with accepting the role models in his life; he doesn’t connect well with his own father but he has no problem looking up to a stranger like Peter Parker. With two mentors showing Miles how to become his own person, I’m hoping Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be a joyful coming-of-age story that is filled with plenty of heart.

The movie also seems to take inspiration from the “Ultimate” version of the Spider-Man comics, as there are a handful of Easter eggs, references, and cameos that avid Marvel fans should have no problem spotting. On top of everything else, Into the Spider-Verse showcases a fresh and unique animation style that evokes the feeling of reading a comic-book. The stunning color pallet and gorgeous animation alone should be enough to pique the interest of audience members who aren’t even familiar with the film’s source material.

Developed at Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is being produced by Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Christina Steinberg, along with Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman are all directing the film, which was also written by Phil Lord himself. Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Jake Johnson, Liev Schreiber, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, and Lily Tomlin are also all included in the film’s cast list.

According to Sony:

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse opens in theaters everywhere on December 14, 2018.
