‘Black Widow’ Hires ‘Red Sparrow’ Production Designer

Progress is moving toward on the forthcoming Marvel Studios film Black Widow; while the film hasn’t officially been announced as the company remains insistent on keeping their plans for movies following Avengers 4 a relative secret, word is that the movie is getting a production designer from another recent spy film.

Omega-Underground is reporting that Maria Djurkovic will serve as the movie’s production designer, with her most recent work being seen in this year’s Red Sparrow. This is particularly ironic, as many people pegged Red Sparrow as being a Black Widow movie in everything but name. Djurkovic’s other credits include Tinker Tailor Soldier SpyThe Snowman, and The Imitation Game.

Little is known about Black Widow so far other than the fact that Scarlett Johansson will return as the title character and that Jac Schaeffer (Timer, The Hustle) is writing the script. Marvel is looking for a female director to handle the movie, which stars a character who has long been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but has not starred in her own feature-length film. Black Widow is rumored to be at least partially be a prequel (one which might possibly involve Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier and/or Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye) and may start filming next year.

Black Widow currently does not have a release date, but is expected to arrive sometime in 2020.
