A Light “Shining” at the End of the Tunnel, ‘Doctor Sleep’ has a Release Date

Stephen King’s sequel to The Shining should be spooking movie audiences in early January of 2020.

Stephen King movies are beginning to creep their way back into the mainstream of Hollywood, with last year’s IT: Chapter One and The Dark Tower, and the upcoming IT: Chapter Two and Pet Sematary. Now, it looks like Warner Bros. is ready to revisit one of King’s most infamous works: The Shining. Instead of a remake or reboot of the hotel horror story, though, the production company is reportedly working on the book’s lesser known sequel, Doctor Sleep. In this novel released in 2013, Danny Torrance (having survived his father’s onslaught and the other menaces at the Overlook Hotel) is now an adult and is still struggling with his psychic abilities, or “shine”.

Danny Lloyd, who plays young Danny Torrance in Kubrick’s version of The Shining is close to the right age to portray the character again, but it’s probably not likely as he hasn’t acted much since he was a child.

Doctor Sleep will be released on January 24, 2020.
